Yesterday, Joe, Zack, and myself rode into Boston for the Wild Rabbit Moto Show held at Naco Taco on Mass Ave in Cambridge. This show is put on by Madhouse Motors.
My Shovelhead which I did most of my riding on last year is undergoing a hardtail facelift. I recently finished my sporty build and this is already the second show I’ve made it out to on this bike.
The show went from 5pm-11pm which is great for all of us who have too much to accomplish on the weekends to begin with. Joe and Zack rolled into my house just after 3pm. We got situated and began our journey to the city. I recently picked up a gently used GoPro 7 for my moto adventures, as if I didn't already pack enough shit. We took backroads about halfway there before jumping on the highway and undergoing Massachusetts’ wonderfully smooth roads, perfect for rigid motorcycles (full sarcasm if you couldn’t tell).
The ride went fairly smooth and traffic free until we got to the Harvard Bridge, crossing the Charles River, right before MIT. My bike began misfiring and starving for power. We pulled over twice and started to assess. I noticed my battery box tie down came loose and my negative battery cable had a little play we tightened with the only thing we had, vice grips. We tried again, right over the bridge it happened again. We pulled over where we could, I quickly found out that my main power from the battery to my circuit breaker broke. I jumped it with a wrench and it worked perfect. Zack and I hung out and we sent Joe to the hardware store. He was back before we knew it, empty handed. He yelled ”I hate this city!” And rolled down the street the other way to the next one. He came back with an extension cord and some ring terminals. In a team effort we got it back together and finally made it to the show.
Right when we arrived we were given a heads up on a good place to park. The street was lined with bikes. Cafe racers to choppers, baggers to dynas. A little bit of everything for every style. We walked up and down the street capturing what we could of the bikes. it was a party of its own in the streets. People lined up, wheelies through the traffic, reunions of people after a cold winter hiatus. We worked our way to the entrance. There was an alley next to and behind Naco Taco that connected and held vendors, show bikes, the Naco Taco food truck and a shit ton of people. We paid the very fair $10 entry fee and walked into the first alley which felt a lot like a Motorcycle Narnia.
One thing about this show that really stood out to me was the added bonus of electric bikes, motorcycles and gas and electric scooters. Not usually my forte but some of them were cool as hell. The attendees were the judges, putting small slips of paper in paper bags that hung from the handlebars. The power was in the hands of the people to vote for their favorite rides.
We hit the food truck and did a few more laps around. Tattoo shops, builders, and craftsmen all showed off their works. There was a massive raffle table and some really great prizes to be won. Everyone seemed to have a kickass time. This was my first time at this show, wasn’t really sure what to expect, but definitely wasn’t disappointed. See you next year Wild Rabbit Moto Show…..
